Rootstown's Shubham Maulik Bakshi receives Doctor of Medicine from Northeast Ohio Medical University

2016 Jun 7

As Northeast Ohio Medical University honored 210 of Ohio's newest physicians, pharmacists and medical professionals during the University's Commencement, May 21, 2016, at The University of Akron's E.J. Thomas Performing Arts Center, Rootstown's Shubham Maulik Bakshi was among the graduates who heard a single message that was made clear to graduates: team-based, patient-centered care is the way to enhance wellness, and the time is now.

Bakshi was among the graduates who received a Doctor of Medicine. Before degrees were conferred, all graduates were treated to a heartfelt address by Dr. Akram Boutros, president and chief executive officer, The MetroHealth System, who received an honorary degree prior to his speech.

Advancing community health and innovation and research were the clear charges of the day. "Fifty-two percent of our 129 medicine graduates who all matched through the National Residency Matching Program, have chosen residencies in Ohio and 21 of our 67 College of Pharmacy graduates have also chosen residencies in Ohio," stated Jay A. Gershen, D.D.S., Ph.D., president of NEOMED. "And our College of Graduate Studies (14 graduates) will only get larger as the increased need for collaboration grows with practitioners and researchers harnessing benchside to bedside teamwork for wellness. The future of our community shines on."
