Lauren Dalvin Graduates From Northeast Ohio Medical University

Dr. Lauren Dalvin, of Canfield, Ohio, was one of 184 public health professionals, pharmacists and physicians to graduate from Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED) during its commencement ceremony on May 18 at The University of Akron's E.J. Thomas Performing Arts Center.

Dr. Dalvin was awarded a Doctor of Medicine degree. Dr. Dalvin will complete a year in preliminary Internal Medicine at the Mayo School of Graduate Medical Education in Rochester, Minn. Dr. Dalvin will pursue a residency in Ophthalmology at Mayo School of Graduate Medical Education in Rochester, Minn. Dr. Dalvin is a graduate of Canfield High School and Youngstown State University. She is the daughter of Dr. Mitchell and Mrs. Darlene Dalvin.

The College of Graduate Studies, founded in 2009, graduated its very first class of students. The College of Pharmacy graduated its third class of pharmacists and the College of Medicine graduated its thirty-third class of physicians.

Sixty-three percent of students in the College of Pharmacy were offered and accepted positions in Northeast Ohio following graduation. Fifty-two percent are entering community practice, 28 percent are entering residencies while the balance are pursuing health-system pharmacy practices, continuing their education or finalizing their plans. Fifty-three percent of the College of Medicine's graduating class will remain in Ohio for their residencies, 29 percent of which will remain in NEOMED's hospital partners, and 44 percent of graduates will continue their training in a primary care field such as family practice, internal medicine, pediatrics or obstetrics/gynecology.

As part of the event, The Honorable Louis Stokes, former congressman, lawyer and civic leader, received an honorary degree and served as the University's commencement speaker.
