Jessica Persson Inducted Into NEOMED Chapter of the Gold Humanism Honor Society

2014 Aug 15

Jessica Persson from Girard, Ohio, was inducted into the Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED) Chapter of the Gold Humanism Honor Society (GHHS) on July 28. This ceremony welcomed the 11th class of physicians and student physicians into the GHHS. Persson is a fourth-year student in the College of Medicine at NEOMED.

The Class of 2015 inductees were nominated by faculty, staff and fellow students for continually exemplifying humanism in medicine, especially those tenets embraced by the society: sensitivity and respect for others, full acceptance of all cultural and ethnic backgrounds, compassion and empathetic treatment of all persons, recognition of other's needs and autonomy, a willingness to put patient needs ahead of one's own, a sense of optimism about the human condition, and a moral obligation to serve the community.

The NEOMED Chapter of the Gold Humanism Honor Society is supported by the Office of Student Affairs and The Arnold P. Gold Foundation, which was established to advance humanism in medicine, perpetuating the tradition of the caring doctor. GHHS honors senior College of Medicine students, faculty, residents and other health care professionals who are exemplars recognized for "demonstrated excellence in the clinical care, leadership, compassion and dedication to service."

For 40 years, NEOMED has worked in collaboration with its educational, clinical and research partners to successfully train health professionals and medical researchers who serve and impact the region and beyond. The University trains students in a team-based, interprofessional environment and offers doctor of medicine (M.D.) and doctor of pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degrees, in addition to master's and doctoral degrees and research opportunities in other medical areas.
