Adam Hluch of Rootstown Welcomed to First Week of Classes as Part of Bio-Med Science Academy Inaugural Class

2012 Aug 16

Adam Hluch of Rootstown is one of 70 students in Bio-Med Science Academy's inaugural class who will kick off the school year Aug. 20 in the classroom but spend the majority of the first week exploring, researching and data-collecting at the Portage County-Randolph Fair.

The charter class of ninth grade students, which includes 36 male and 34 female students hailing from Mahoning, Portage, Summit, Stark and Trumbull Counties, will spend several days at the Fair completing team-based quests designed to encourage a different way of looking at agriculture, farming technology and more. Students will compile the results of their initial week at the Fair and present those findings to the Fair Board later this year.

Bio-Med Science Academy, a STEM+M (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math and Medicine) high school on the Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED) campus, is one of the first rural STEM schools in the country, and its integration on a medical university campus allows its teachers and students to take advantage of sophisticated research laboratories and guest lectures from an array of scientific researchers, professors and medical professionals.
